Effects of Integrated Art Therapy on Adjustment and Maladjustment Behaviors of the Children with Intellectual Disabilities

Abstract
The purpose of this study was that integrated art therapy on adjustment and maladjustment behaviors of the children with intellectual disabilities. The subjects of the study were 20 elementary school children with intellectual disabilities, each 10 of whom, then, were assigned to the experimental group and control group, respectively. The experiments were conducted twice a week starting from May 3 to Sep.14, 2010. The one session was 70 minutes and total sessions are 20. To examine the effects of the study, K-ABS and K-CBCL were applied to the experimental as well as control groups before and after the study and compared with each other for analysis. The results were as follows: first, the integrated art therapy is significantly effective to improve adjustment behavior of the children with intellectual disabilities. Second, the integrated art therapy exercises significant impacts upon controlling maladjustment behavior of the children with intellectual disabilities. These findings definitely confirm the positive effects of the integrated art therapy in promoting adjustment behavior and reducing maladjustment behavior of the children with intellectual disabilities.
